FIPS Congress Cancelled
By Mark Spilsbury
16 March 2011
Today, we received notification of the cancellation of the FIPS congress planned to start on Sunday April 2nd at Rusutsu Resort in Hokkaido prefecture. While the situation in the northen island is stable, the growing concerns over the increasing radiation risks in NE Japan from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant and the difficulties being experienced in travelling, have led the SAJ organising team to review the situation and cancel the congress.
They have worked tirelessly to prepare for this event and our thanks go out to them for their efforts. It must have been a very hard decision for both the organisers and the resort.
We all feel for Japan in its time of crisis.
Below is the letter sent out to delegate that explains the cancellation. Of note is the offer to host the conference when the situation stabilisies. This will be considered by the FIPS executive
