Australian National Training Authority
The Australian National Training Authority - ANTA - is an Australian Government statutory authority providing a national and industry-led focus for vocational education and training (VET). Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on 22 October 2004 that ANTA is to be abolished from July 2005 and its responsibilities taken into the department, the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) and the Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) are working to achieve a smooth transition of ANTA’s responsibilities to the department for both clients and staff. ANTA and DEST are committed to the world-leading, industry-led national vocational education and training system developed over the past 12 years and their focus is to maintain the continuous improvement of the national training framework. The skills and experience of ANTA staff have made a major contribution to the success of the national system and will continue to be valuable to this ongoing work. DEST and ANTA are both focused on building the skills of individual Australians to support ongoing economic prosperity and future as a socially-inclusive nation. Training Packages Training Packages are sets of nationally endorsed standards and qualifications for recognising and assessing people's skills. A Training Package describes the skills and knowledge needed to perform effectively in the workplace. They do not prescribe how an individual should be trained. Teachers and trainers develop learning strategies - the "how" - depending on learners' needs, abilities and circumstances. Training Packages are developed by industry through National Industry Skills Councils or by enterprises to meet the identified training needs of specific industries or industry sectors. To gain national endorsement, developers must provide evidence of extensive consultation and support within the industry area or enterprise. Training Packages complete a quality assurance process and are then endorsed by the National Training Quality Council (NTQC) and placed on the National Training Information Service (NTIS). In January 2005, there were 71 endorsed Training Packages. Nine of these were enterprise Training Packages, developed by enterprises for their own unique needs. Training Packages have a set date for review - usually around three years after they are endorsed. Reviews ensure Training Packages remain current to meet industry needs and allow issues that arise during their implementation to be addressed. Of particular relevance to ASPA are the these training packages:
