The training material on the site is for the use of Patrol Members attending our programs and the material must NOT be used without proper instruction from qualified instructors and practitioners.

Search Engine

The ASPA Training Knowledge Gateway is a self contained source of information.  It has been indexed to allow it to be searched in a similar way to other web sites that you may be familiar with.   Advice on how to use it is contained on the search page.  The results appear in the same window as the advice.

Introduction

If you require technical assistance, please call your Information Technology support provider.  Specific IT support is beyond the capabilities of  this website, as much as we might like to help.

The information here also does not provide detailed advice on the operation of the software used to display particular files accessed from this site.  For that you can refer to the user manuals provided by the manufacturer.

The videos on this site use a flash plug-in which is available for download from Macromedia.  If the video does not show, you may not have the Flash plug-in loaded for your Browser.   An automatic redirection should take you to the Macromedia site.

Apart from Browser software, two pieces of additional software are essential for the operation of the disk - Adobe Acrobat and the Macromedia Flash 7.0 or above plug-in.

Types of files

The files used on this site may be any of the following:

  • Microsoft® Powerpoint with a suffix of 'ppt' or 'pps'
  • Microsoft® Word with a suffix of doc
  • Macromedia® Flash with a suffix of 'swf' or video files with a suffix of 'fla'
  • Adobe® Acrobat with a suffix of 'pdf'
  • Graphic files that may have a suffix of 'gif', jpg, or bmp - all of which are read by the Internet Browser
  • Internet Browser files that end in 'htm', 'html', 'xml', 'php' or 'asp'  - all of which are read by Internet Explorer, Netscape® Navigator, Mozilla or similar
  • Maps are presented in gif format; however, original vector graphic files are held by ASPA should anyone need to modify them.  These files are also available in Adobe® Illustrator or Corel® Draw formats on request.
  • Video files are stored with a suffix of 'fla'  - only viewable by Flash® Player 7.0; however, some video is duplicated in mpeg1 or mpeg2 format with an 'mpg' suffix.  The Mpeg2 format files on this disk are high definition and require commercially available software to be able to be played.

Loading of Software

Should you wish to use the formats that require propriety software you will need to purchase the software and have appropriate licences.  Adobe® Acrobat is the primary delivery software on the disk and is available free from Adobe.  It uses 'portable document format' and is platform independent.  The Macromedia® Flash plug-in for Microsoft® Explorer is also free.

You will need Macromedia Flash 7.0 to play the video material.  Macromedia Flash comes in several additional versions for standalone use.  These can be down loaded from www.macromedia.com site, although they are NOT required for the use of this disk.

'Tahoma' is the true-type-font used for most of the ASPA Website.  It can be downloaded by right-clicking on the two file font names and saving them to your hard drive.   The two font files (tahomabd.ttf and tahoma.ttf) can then be loaded through your Control Panel for bold, italic and normal fonts.

Structure of the ASPA Training Website

The ASPA Training Website is divided into manageable modules and can be access by clicking on the blue menu bar at the top of the Browser window.  The menu system is Javascript driven and may require you to change your security settings to allow Active X modules to operate.  The site map is clickable and acts as an index to the web pages.
