Trainer and Assessor Training Courses
ASPA has over 50 trainers that contribute to its programs. The Advanced Emergency Care Course is the only vocational first-aid course recognised by the industry as suitable for Ski Patrollers specifically and Alpine Safety practitioners more generally. It is a prerequisite for employment in all states as a Ski patroller. This means that, combined with the high turnover in the industry, trainers need to be brought on board often and they need to have specific skills.
ASPA therefore conducts a short Train the Trainer program to ensure the high standards are maintained and that specific models of training are encouraged by the trainers and assessors. ASPA has been conducting these Train-the-Trainer courses since 1980. The course is a summary course and orientation to Alpine Safety work and does not address all the skills required of a trainer or assessor.
ASPA therefore supports trainers attending the Certificate IV in Workplace Training (TAA040104). ASPA does not offer any of the units itself, but does require all instructors and examiners to hold the assessment and training units of this qualification (or the equivalent). The TAA040104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment specifies the competencies required to deliver training in an industry area or area of subject matter expertise, and to conduct competency‑based assessment in a range of contexts.
Students are reminded that they can avail themselves of the recognition systems of ASPA Training when they have completed units at other recognised training organisations. The units are subject to Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) application and assessment.
The elements and performance criteria for each unit are available by clicking on the Unit Code.
ASPA also recommends that instructors and examiners who wish to complete this qualification complete the following elective units.
Assistant Instructors and Lecturers are supervised in any instruction that is delivered by them. The roles are defined on the Position Descriptions page. |
